RM45,000 worth of prizes awaits winners of 1st Sabah Screen Festival

KOTA KINABALU: Winners of the 1st Sabah Screen Festival can look forward to prizes worth a total of RM45,000 along with trophies and certificates.
The festival themed ‘Identity’ will be held at the National Arts and Culture Department of Sabah on November 11 to 13 at 7.30pm.
It is divided into student and open cateogires. The student category will be for short films and an animation contest whilst the open category will be for short films, documentaries and advertisements.
The Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology stated that purpose of the Sabah Screen Fest is to give an opportunity for participants to showcase their creativity through short films, documentaries and advertisements.
“We want to encourage arts and creativity among students so that they can be competitive in the future,” said Minister of Resource Development and IT, Datuk Siringan Gubat during a press conference at the Wisma Bandaraya yesterday.
Seminar, workshops, exhibitions and an award night will be conducted during the three-day period of the festival.
Awards in the offing are for the best director, best script, best actor and actress, best character, best graphics and best sound effects.
The objectives of the festival are to promote the creative industry in Sabah and to create an opportunity for film enthusiasts to display their work and also to give recognition to those who perform exceptionally well in the industry in Sabah.
The festival is open to Malaysian citizens only including students from all types of schools.
Closing date for the entries is on October 10. The entry form can be downloaded on the the website www.screenfest.my.
Participants must send two copies of a DVD along with entry forms to the Permanent Secretary fo the Ministry of Resource Development and IT on the 10th floor of Wisma Bandaraya, 88000 Kota Kinabalu for the attention of Moira David.
